Un Unexpected Review
This is the ridiculously sublime scenario that underlies “Absolutism”, the dystopian card game developed by science fiction author Costi Gurgu and game developer/designer Vali Gurgu about surviving dictatorship.
Why Did the Beaver Cross the Border? A Canadian Fairytale Turned American Horror Story
Nobody knows what the CanaLord asked of the Mighty Beaver, but he was seen crossing the border into the Orange Kingdom. And now all the Orange King’s people tremble, waiting to see WHY THE BEAVER CROSSED THE BORDER.

SMALL STEPS, BIG RESULTS
In case you haven’t noticed yet we added on the KS page pictures with the prototype, although the prototype is still a work in progress. We also changed some of the cards examples on the KS page, so we can give you a better understanding of the game mechanics. There...
The Wall of Absolute Fame is built and it has YOUR name on it!
We’re proud to announce that we placed the last brick into the Wall of Absolute Fame on Games for Aliens website.
It is done and it is beautiful, and it stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific, separating Canada from Mexico. “Wow!” You want to say, “Wait a minute! Canada is not neighboring Mexico on any sides of the continent.”
ABSOLUTISM — THE GAME
The game is deceptively simple, yet it gives a deep understanding of a totalitarian way-of-life using a dark humor approach. It is a card game with two decks of cards and some BADGES OF HONOUR to award those who have proved to be most despotically-inclined, so to say.
Absolutism card game in George Brown College
I talked with Nina’s students about my novel, RecipeArium, and about our party card game, Absolutism. It was a really vivid discussion. Interesting questions and great debate.
WE COME IN FROM THE COLD
The scenarios we used in some of the cards in the game are based on our personal experience. If in real life you find yourself in one of those scenarios, you know that you’re fornicating (F) under (U) the consent (C) of the king (K)(if you don’t know what I mean, look it up).
President Trump unleashes the “Russian Reward Program” card on his allies!
As history has taught us, Russia has one way and ONE WAY ONLY of diplomacy — bangs its fists on the table and makes demands. With slight variations. Sometimes it could be one fist, other times it’s both of them.
The US, on the other hand…
Huge Success at Game Designers Nights in Toronto
Great testimonial from Josh Lacasse, the Board Game Manager at 401Games: “Absolutism is a surprisingly fresh game. Although the game mechanics are like Cards Against Humanity’s, all the Scenarios and Solutions were new to me. I’ve never heard them in CAH or any other similar game. And the Special Cards you added to the game really increase the freshness and replay value of the game.”
ABSOLUTISM – THE BIG LAUNCH DAY ON KICKSTARTER
Today is the DAY. The day we launch our Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Absolutism.
Our first game, Absolutism, is now officially on the market. It will be a few months still until it hits the shelves, as we hope to gather enough money through this campaign to produce it.
A SURPRISE FROM THE ABSOLUTISM TEAM!
We are only a day away from the Kickstarter launch for ABSOLUTISM!
And we have a BIG SURPRISE in store for you! No, no, no— an ABSOLUTE SURPRISE for you!
THE BAD, THE UGLY AND THE BITTER
A lot of people living now in North America have personal experience with one form or another of dictatorship. With one form or another of tyranny (see above for an à la Carte definition).
ABSOLUTISM LOGO
This last Sunday, we finished designing the Absolutism’s logo/icon. The symbol that we’ll use on cards and the game box, and in the video, and practically everywhere, to replace the sickle and hammer icon.
A Short Long Weekend
First of all — on Friday we’ve been approved by Kickstarter to campaign on their crowdfunding platform. Yay!
Second — we introduced several “special” cards in the game and on Saturday we playtested with some friends to see how they work in a real game.
A FEW MORE DAYS TO KICKSTARTER
Soon we’ll go live on Kickstarter with our game, Absolutism.
We’re working now on the material we need for the campaign on Kickstarter: the video clip, graphic design, story, financials, photos, illustrations. Everything should be ready and in place by the deadline.
THE SCENARIO OF ABSOLUTISM
Absolutism is a scenario game. The big one is—you give up some of your liberties to see your political ideals materialize with your next vote. Giving more power to your leaders means keeping less power for you. And in a few short years, we’ll have a story told like this…
OUR FIRST GAME
Our first game is a party card game called ABSOLUTISM. We started working on it at the beginning of the year. Step by step— concept, premise, system, rules, content, graphics. After spending numerous sleepless nights and fervent weeks, we...
Games for Aliens – THE BEGINNING
Vali and I have been working 24 hours a day (yes, we do have 30 hours a day here, in Toronto) to conceive, design and develop a new party card game. We call it Absolutism.
Not only that…
