It’s been a very busy and interesting Victoria Day long weekend.

First of all — on Friday we’ve been approved by Kickstarter to campaign on their crowdfunding platform. Yay!

So, now we have a definitive date for our campaign launch—Tuesday, May 29th. That’s a week away!

Second — we introduced several “special” cards in the game and on Saturday we playtested with some friends to see how they work in a real game. It’s one thing what you designed a card to do and it’s a different thing what real people will do with that card. And while three of the special cards played exactly the way we designed them, two started acted differently. With a mind of their own. Almost like an AI…

Now, that’s a good thing, as it gives us ideas on how to improve the game. And it was no different last Saturday. Now we already started making further changes based on the last feedback, putting the special cards together bit by bit.

Absolutism Tour

And third — on Monday we toured all the game cafes and stores in downtown Toronto, to see how they can help us and how we can help them improve their game list.

Well, needless to say, it was a longer than necessary tour, as we got to talking to the nice people working in the cafes, sat for a game, or two, and eventually ended up in Chinatown. Where Vali had to visit her favorite pastry shop for some necessary red bean rice cakes and then we saw some fabulous discounts (as you can only see in Chinatown’s markets) and stopped to shop for some fresh mango, palm’s seeds compote, prawn crackers, sesame candies and other specialties. By the end of it, the game shops in Chinatown were closed and we returned home full of bags.

Absolutism Tour

Anyway, one of the results of our “little” trip around the game block is that next week we’re scheduled for two Game Designers Night to test Absolutism:

  1. The “Snakes and Lattes” at Bathurst & College, from 6 to 11 on Monday, May 28th.
  2. The “401Games” at Yonge & College, from 6 to 12 on Tuesday, May 29th

If someone would like to play our game prototype you’re more than welcomed at those game nights. Both of them are very nice and friendly cafes, and they have huge collections of games. We’ll be back with more information.
