Authoritarianism (noun) ôˌTHäriˈterēənizəm/
— the enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom
— lack of concern for the wishes or opinions of others
I think that the above definition should resonate with a lot of people from around the world and lately, even from here, in North America.
You may think we speak from books and the question “what do they know?” may have crossed your minds reading my posts. And that’s a valid question— How would we know anything about all this business with totalitarian regimes?
Well, we lived for A LOT of years in one dictatorship, we survived it, and we moved on.
The party card game Absolutism presents you with unfathomable scenarios of daily life in a totalitarian society to which you, the player, have to offer solutions. But as no sane solutions can save you in a real dictatorship, in Absolutismyour solutions will be absurd and hilarious, based on modern life values.
It uncovers the hilarious truth about who is the most dictatorial in your group of friends or among your family members. It should be played in groups of four or more and it is perfect for grown-ups.
Absolutism is a party game consisting of two decks of cards: the SCENARIOS (the red cards) and the SOLUTIONS (the yellow cards), five SECRET POLICE WARRANTS, five NATIONALIZATION cards, five RE-EDUCATION cards, five BRIBE cards, five COUP D’ETAT cards, and six BADGES OF HONOR.
The scenarios we used in some of the cards in the game are based on our personal experience. If in real life you find yourself in one of those scenarios, you know that you’re fornicating (F) under (U) the consent (C) of the king (K)(if you don’t know what I mean, look it up).
And your only choice would be to obey the rules and customs of the new totalitarian society. Not so much in the game of Absolutism. Your solutions to those scenarios will be absurd and hilarious, based on modern life values.
And seeing as to where our world is headed, frankly, it terrifies us. So, we’re doing what we know best to warn others of the dangers we’re all facing—we create a game to warn you, we play it and laugh, and we hope that you too will have fun while playing it.
Absolutism— A dark humor game about surviving dictatorship. YOU know it’s coming!
